Philadelphia Supporting Australia

Many of us still call Australia home and it’s been pretty brutal back there over the past few months. Even giving money and support seems not enough for us from here in Philly. Support from around the world has been massive and much appreciated and Philly is no exception. We’ve been asked by plenty of locals where they should give their hard-earned and they are shelling out willingly in support. There are also a number of events round town that are stepping up to offer more ways to give and to more organizations for both ex-pats and locals alike. Here’s a short list:

Jan 19th – just a hop, skip and jump away in Easton PA, the Tucker Silk Mill is teaming up with their neighbours at Pie + Tart to host a bushfire benefit from 2-6pm. Sounds like small businesses around Easton have donated a lot of goodies for an auction to go to NSW Rural Fire Service. Check out their event details for Pies & Pavlova

Jan 23rd-29th – Jet Wine Bar on South St is doing an Aussie Wine Relief Week and will be offering up “10 wines by the glass and bottle, a specialty cocktail and some Aussie snacks and small plates” with a fair chunk going to the Nature Foundation of South Australia’s Wildlife Recovery Fund. Details here.

Jan 25th: 12pm to 4pm the Khyber Pass Pub will be having a Bushfire Benefit to aid the Adelaide Koala Rescue and The Kangaroo Island Mayoral Fund. $20 at the door will get you a drink and you’ll be able to partake in some typical Aussie fare and drinks as well as live music. Head upstairs. Details

Jan 25th : 12pm – 6pm (sounds like a mini pub crawl to me!) The annual aussie day party celebrations is not only a fundraiser for our local Aussie Rules footy team, but of course they’re throwing their support behind the Aussie Red Cross. $20 at the door plus 10% of the a membership signup (which is $50). Raffles, games, pies, beers etc. Details

Jan 25th & 26th: Till the pies run out! Ants Pants Cafe will be having a Pie Drive and serving up Meat Pies specials all weekend until they run out. Proceeds will be going to Wires, NSW Rural Firies and BlazeAid.

Jan 26th: Worth a quick trip out to West Chester on Sunday where our mates at Kildare’s will be putting on their own Aussie Day Fundraiser from 12pm to 6pm. Give at the door, grab a pie and a Coopers to help with their support efforts. Details.

Jan 26th: 3pm to close – in addition to already giving a chunk of proceeds, Bluestone Lane has an Aussie Day event including their Rittenhouse location. $35 tix. Details.
